The country will have a new Cabinet Secretary in charge of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports after recent changes within the cabinet made by President William Ruto on Thursday 19 December.

Outgoing Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen has been transferred to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, with former Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs CS Mvurya Salim taking over the Ministry of Sports.

The other changes made in the cabinet include appointing former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba as the Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United States Environment Programme (UNEP)/ United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).

The country is also among the hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the new CS will have to ensure facilities including the Talanta Sports City are ready before then.

In a press release, the President’s office stated: “HE the President has today made nominations, re-assignments, and appointments to the senior ranks of the Executive.

The Head of State and Government’s Executive Action re-aligns Ministries, State Departments, and Kenya’s Foreign Service to optimize performance and enhance service delivery as set out in the Administration’s revitalized plan under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).”

Former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has been handed the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Former Governor for Nakuru Lee Kinyanjui has been appointed as CS for Investments, Trade, and Ministry, and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo appointed CS for Information, Communication, and The Digital Economy.
